Niacinamide, also known as (niacin) and (nicotinamide) is an important lipid-altering, water-soluble component of the vitamin B complex. Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3 which is an essential nutrient.

A B3 deficiency can lead to disorders of the skin, kidneys, and brain. Taking niacinamide can help prevent B3 deficiency. Although more research is needed, topical niacinamide may help treat certain skin conditions, including acne and eczema.

Topical application of niacinamide proves effective in treating the skin via reduced transepidermal water loss. Studies reveal that 2% niacinamide is even more effective than petrolatum in reducing water loss from skin and increasing its moisture levels!

Not only does niacinamide hydrate the skin, but it can also help fight acne! Niacinamide has similar results to other popular acne fighting ingredients like clindamycin but may be preferable because bacteria tend to re-emerge after a period of antibacterial agent use. You do not have to worry about that with niacinamide.

Lecithin assists in breaking down other fats and transporting them throughout the body.
It also acts as a direct precursor to the neurotransmitter acetylcholine.
Acetylcholine promotes memory formation, neural structure health, and reasoning skills.
Lecithin is also a powerful antioxidant which keeps cells healthy by removing toxins and fighting free radical damage.

How long does 10% niacinamide take to work?

Using 5% or 10% Niacinamide-containing products show better effects with no skin problems like irritation. Most studies show that even though you may find improvement immediately after starting Niacinamide, it usually takes anywhere between 8-12 weeks for a visible change.

Yes, niacinamide can be used both day and/or night after cleansing the skin. Niacinamide is an ingredient that is great for overall skin health, so it can easily slot into any skincare routine.

Yes. Niacinamide can safely be used with other skincare products that contain antioxidants, anti-inflammatory ingredients, humectants and similar such skin friendly ingredients.

Applied topically, niacinamide can improve skin texture and strengthen the protective barrier function of the skin, which then helps to reduce inflammation, often appearing as dry, irritated or flaky skin. It does so by increasing natural lipids found on the skin surface and reducing water loss.

Topical niacinamide is generally considered safe to use. People who have preexisting allergies may be more likely to experience an allergic reaction. This is because niacinamide can cause your body to release histamine. You can avoid widespread allergic reactions and product sensitivities by doing a patch test:

Apply a dime-sized amount of product on your forearm.
Wait 24 hours.
If you begin to experience redness, itching, or swelling, wash the area and discontinue use.
If you don’t experience any side effects, it should be safe to apply elsewhere.

Benefits:

TEN REASONS TO USE NIACINAMIDE ON YOUR SKIN

Overall, Niacinamide can help build proteins in the skin and lock in moisture to prevent environmental damage. Individual benefits may include and support with:

1. Immunity: Niacinamide helps build keratin, a type of protein that keeps your skin firm and healthy.

2. Lipid barrier: Niacinamide can help your skin grow a ceramide (lipid) barrier, which can, in turn, help retain moisture. This is beneficial for all skin types, especially if you have eczema or mature skin.

3. Minimizes redness and blotchiness: Niacinamide reduces inflammation, which may help ease redness from eczema, acne, and other inflammatory skin conditions.

4. Minimizes pore appearance: Keeping skin smooth and moisturized may have a secondary benefit – a natural reduction in pore size over time.

5. Regulates oil: The benefits of moisture retention aren’t just for those with dry skin types. Niacinamide can also help regulate the amount of oil the sebaceous glands produce and prevent your glands from going into overdrive.

6. Protects against sun damage: Niacinamide can concurrently rebuild healthy skin cells while also protecting them from damage caused by ultraviolet rays.

7. Treats hyperpigmentation:  Some research has found 5 percent niacinamide concentrations can be helpful in lightening dark spots. Benefits were seen after four weeks, but not beyond two months. This benefit may be due to increased collagen production.

8. Dull and sallow skin: Niacinamide goes one step further and reverses the visible signs brought about by the onslaught.9. Protects against oxidative stress. Niacinamide helps build cells in the skin while also protecting them from environmental stresses, such as sunlight, pollution, and toxins.

9. Protects against oxidative stress: Niacinamide helps build cells in the skin while also protecting them from environmental stresses, such as sunlight, pollution, and toxins.

10. Treats acne: Niacinamide may be helpful for severe acne, especially inflammatory forms like papules and pustules. Over time, you may see fewer lesions and improved skin texture.
